It took a little time, but I finally got a job. Not that serving wasn't a job, but I actually got a job based on my experience and qualifications and not on my ability to remember who was drinking what and which table asked for the sugar-free syrup. I've been at it for close to two months and I have almost convinced myself that I'm happy behind a desk again...almost.

There are a couple of things I really wanted to accomplish during my little sabbatical. I wanted to listen to a slew of old bands I thought I needed to hear more of, I wanted to listen to a lot of new bands that I hadn't taken the time to listen to, I wanted to write more, I wanted to start running again, I wanted to force myself to like carrots and I wanted to sew more. I did all (well, most) of these things- to an extent.

I listened to a few older bands, but I didn't get swept away by the first few, so that was the end of that. I found a couple of new bands and listened to them and had a little more success there, but nothing extraordinary. I wrote a few short stories, but I started a million more than I actually finished. I ran the first few weeks I was unemployed, but then it got cold, so I put that on hold- although as of late I have been gearing back up again. I didn't even try the carrot thing. Ugh. Out of all of those things, the one I waited the longest to start is the one I have been the most consistent with and the one I enjoy the most. I have started sewing. Like, a ton. I haven't used a pattern to make anything yet, but most of the things I have screwed around with and created have turned out decent.

I think can now call myself a sewer. Not to be confused with a sewer. Maybe I should call myself a seamstress. That seems too advanced though. I like sewer better.

It's taken me almost a year and a half, but here is entry number two! As much as I would like to say I haven't had enough bad ideas to justify an entry, I can't. I've had countless bad ideas and just as many bad decisions in the last year and a half to write a book, let alone a few blog entries. Probably the most influential bad idea I had during my blogging absence was also the best idea I seemed to have. I quit my job. Sometimes it still seems like it was a colossal mistake, but then I think back to the year and a half of hell and agony and I smile and thank god I am out of that place.

After four months of laying around my house, basking in the glow of the television and reading anything I could get my hands on; I decided I would take a "meantime" job. A disposable job that I could have to keep me busy and put some cash in my pocket until a "real" job came around. So, for a month now, I have
been contributing to society as a waitress. It sounds awful and sometimes I feel awful telling people what I do, but actually, it's kind of fun. It's not like a day at Disney World or anything, but I don't dread going to work and I'm starting to get good at it. I haven't been good at something in awhile and I like it.
